We Are The World (Not!): African Singers Urge People To Donate For Norway

Who can forget Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Tina Turner singing "We Are The World?"

Well, USA For Africa is water under the bridge now. The world has changed and there's another barren landscape that needs your attention: Norway.

Norwegian children are getting ready to face a freezing winter, with heavy snowfall and fewer Christmas presents than previous years. They desperately need heaters…

At least that's what several African singers are advocating in a video from charity group Radi-Aid...

The Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund who created the video are hoping to raise funds toward solutions – rather than exploiting the usual stereotypes.

Their idea:

-Fundraising should not be based on exploiting stereotypes.

-There needs to be better information about what is going on in the world, in schools, in TV and media. People need to know about positive developments in Africa and developing countries, not only about crises, poverty and AIDS.

-Media needs to show respect.

-Aid must be based on real needs, not “good” intentions.
