Who hasn't forwarded an e-petition, retweeted something about a cause, or posted a Kony video on their Facebook page? You might not know it, but if you did any of this kind of civic stuff without getting out of your chair, you were being a Slacktivist. The term, first coined in 1995, means to "do something in support of a cause that requires minimal personal effort," according to Sortable.com.
Some might now claim that such finger-driven demonstrating played a role in the revolutions of the Arab spring, as well as the Occupy and Indignados movements. Others may point out that "taking to the streets" is still what actually makes things happen.
